- (1604-81)Portuguese marrano physician and philosopher. He was physician at the Royal Court of Madrid. Persecuted by the Inquisition, he fled to Venice where he embraced Judaism. He later settled in Verona. In his Philosophia Libera he opposed the teachings of the kabbalah and Shabbetai Tzevi. His Las excelencias y calumnias de los Hebreos describes ten virtues of the Jewish people and refutes ten calumnies.
